I've used SocialOomph for several years now, with several Twitter accounts, and it's an essential part of my online social networking universe.
Of the many helpful features that SocialOomph provides, there are three features that I use on almost a daily basis:
1) Automatically Send DM's to New Followers
As I learned very quickly after joining Twitter, online social networking can be a lot of work. If you're interested in creating a quality social network with the right folks, then you do need to work at it every day.
For instance, you need to find the right folks to follow, which can be a daunting task at first, and which takes time; you'll need to spend many hours online finding new folks to follow. At first, you can do a simple keyword search of Twitter to get a list of possible follows, and, as you add new follows, more folks will follow you.
It won't be long before things will snowball, and you'll have dozens of new followers every day eager to have you follow them back.
That is when the work begins. Among it's many optional features, SocialOomph will automatically follow-back new followers, which can be useful for some Twitter accounts, but which is not a good idea if you are interested in creating a quality social group. Usually this will cause more work as you'll be spending your time manually unfollowing undesirables, and spammers.
The best approach, or, the approach I use, is to have SocialOomph send a welcoming DM to new followers telling them that I vet all my followers. While this is a impersonal way of communicating with new followers, most folks recognize that the automation is a necessary evil.
Since Twitter notifies you via email when someone new follows you, I then use those emails to vet my new followers. (Since this can also be a time-consuming task, I created a simple program, VetMyFollowers, that helps expedite that chore.)
2) SocialOomph Keyword Alert Digest
SocialOomph will send you a "Twitter Tweets Keyword Alert Digest" email twice each day.
This is an email that lists those folks who have mentioned you in some way, from retweets, to replies, comments, etc.
These folks may, or may not be followers, and the comments may, or may not be positive.
This is a great resource for managing, and gauging the effect of your tweets, and learn who is following you, who likes you, and who dislikes you.
Using these emails, you can find/vet new followers, and, perhaps block followers who aren't so nice.
I like to use it as a means of vetting and promoting current followers, and mentioning them on #FollowFriday. (#FollowFriday, #FF, is a friendly Tweet-way of recognizing and promoting your followers to your other followers.)
Since I'm not able to review my Alert Digests, I usually let them accumulate for several days, and then process them all at one time. To help me do this, I created a simple program, SO_Alert_Tool, to accumulate, and summarize the Alert Digests into a simple text file for further review and processing; (I've recently added an html version, also.)
Click the link, below, to download a beta version of SO_Alert_Tool the program.)
3) Schedule Tweets
SocialOomph allows you to schedule your tweets for posting at a later time. They have a nice set-up that is easy to use, and accommodates multiple Twitter accounts.
Scheduling Tweets is not for everyone. If you are a Twitter user who likes to communicate back and forth, and chat-chat with your followers, then scheduling does not make sense.
I like to share information in the form of links, and make comments at the same time. The links are usually not time-sensitive, so they can be shared over the range of day, or even several days. Scheduling lets me share my info with more followers, by spreading it throughout the day.
===================
All of the above features, and much more, are offered as part of their free account. They also have a paid Professional account, which offers a slew of additional/essential features.
As I said, I've used SocialOomph for several years, and I can't think of ever having a issue, or a problem. It is a high quality service, and it deserves your consideration, whether you use the free account, or you need the Professional version.
